ENVIRONMENTAL COMMUNICATION AWARD (ECA)

The first winners of Bellagio's Environmental Communication Award (ECA) received their accolades at a ceremony in Magdeburg, Germany, on November 17, 2003.


ECA winners Dr Thomas Weber of DaimlerChrysler (second from left), Penny Reyes-Velasco of the Happy Earth Organization, the Philippines (next), and Dr Luisa Schmidt of Portugal (third from right), hold their citations as Prof. Dr. Klaus Töpfer (first at left), Euronatur President Dr. h. c. Claus-Peter Hutter (second from right) and ECA Jury member Göran A. Persson from Sweden extend congratulations.

Created as a joint initiative of the Forum and the European Nature Heritage Fund (Euronatur), under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Klaus Töpfer, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the ECA recognises those who effectively communicate their sustainable development initiatives.  The first recipients of the award were the DaimlerChrysler Corporation, for "corporate achievement"; the Philippine "Happy Earth Organization" for "institutions and initiatives"; and Portuguese environmental writer Ms Luisa Schmidt for "individual achievement".
